Last class, we saw the shortest verse in the Bible — 'Jesus wept.' This week, we find out what He does after He weeps. And the answer is going to shape everything in John from this point forward."

ROADMAP — three movements in today's text:

1. THE THRESHOLD (vv. 38–44): What God asks of human beings before He unleashes divine power. Participatory obedience — the stone and the gravecloths.

2. THE FRACTURE (vv. 45–53): The same miracle, two opposite responses. Why evidence alone never produces faith in a closed heart. Caiaphas and the involuntary prophecy.

3. THE HINGE (vv. 54–57): Jesus withdraws. The Passover approaches. Everything is in motion.
