Through careful examination of six Old Testament shadows and types woven into John 5:1-17, we discover that the five porches, the stirred waters, the Sabbath controversy, and the resurrection language of Christ's commands all point to one reality: Jesus is the substance behind every shadow of the Old Covenant. Key Greek words like θέλεις (theleis—"do you will?") and ὑγιής (hygiēs—"whole, sound") reveal that Christ's question to the paralytic is the same question He asks each of us today. This lesson challenges believers to stop lying beside broken systems, engage their will toward wholeness, and walk in the resurrection power that only Christ provides.
